Choosing the Right Location, Right Catheter and the Right Size for Every Unique Patient Can Be Easily and Accurately Done in Your Office
Every patient is different and so are their bodies. Matching the catheter to the patient (style and size), primary incision site as well as choosing the exit site location (below the belt-line, above the belt-line, below the rib cage in the upper abdomen, or below the clavicle in the upper chest) to match the patient’s anatomy, preferences, and needs is important.
Medigroup gives you CHOICES by helping you accurately choose:
- Which catheter size (Small, Standard, Large) is best suited to the patient’s individual physique
- Which catheter style (Classic, ARC™, ExxTended™) matches the needs and abilities of each patient
- The optimum implantation location (primary incision site) relative to the patient’s unique torso anatomy and the chosen catheter
- The exit-site location (below the belt-line, above the belt-line, below the rib cage in the upper abdomen, or below the clavicle in the upper chest) matches the patient’s anatomy, preferences, and needs.
All this can be determined before the catheter is implanted. Using a Medigroup Stencil, the optimum catheter can be easily, accurately, and consistently chosen for implantation in any patient, regardless of the patient's overall physique, torso size, obesity, height, or any other potentially limiting physical factors. This is possible because the Medigroup’s Stencil is based on clear anatomical reference points are always fixed and locatable.
Implantation Stencils are primarily designed to be used in the clinic or physician’s office, prior to the implantation procedure, to determine which catheter size and style is most appropriate for the patient, and to mark the appropriate implantation and exit sites in advance of the procedure.
Then at the time of the implantation procedure, based on the conditions found within the abdomen when visualized with a scope, the implanting physician can confirm the anatomical markings determined by the Stencil, or adjust as necessary, before implanting the catheter.
Medigroup’s Stencil
A Catheter Implantation Stencil is a template that is used before the catheter is implanted in a patient to help locate several critical points on the patient’s anatomy: the primary implantation incision site, the rectus cuff location, the catheter tunnel track, the exit-cuff location, and the exit-site. The Stencil also help you, the doctor, to choose which catheter to implant in which patient.
The Stencil is thin piece of plastic, about 5” x 9” (12.5cm x 23.0cm). It is semi-flexible and semi-transparent. There are cut-outs (holes) in the plastic at the recommended locations of each of those points listed above. Each Flex-Neck® Catheter includes one set of sterile Implantation Stencils – one for use when implanting a catheter on the patient’s left side, and one for the right side.
